Bridal Open House

Our Bridal Open House was last Thursday, July 9th, and with the help of some amazing and talented vendors, we welcomed almost 60 brides with their friends and families to The Old Cigar Warehouse. The night was filled with mingling, delicious food and drink, entertainment and door prizes provided by all our featured vendors. To add to the excitement, we offered our first ever consignment sale as an opportunity for our past brides to sell their bridal decor items to any future brides looking for bargain prices.

The space was filled with thirteen of our preferred vendors, each offering a different service to ensure that guests get the an idea of all the service options that are available to them. Our brides had the chance to see, taste and hear everything that our featured vendors had to offer.

We were happy to welcome Danielle Baker, The Wedding Lady, back to The Old Cigar Warehouse. Danielle is a joy to work with and our couples had the chance to experience her warm personality for themselves!

Holmes Catering served up a delicious menu including Cheddar Cheese Spread, Pulled Pork Sliders, Marinated Shrimp, Grilled Kielbasa, and an OCW staff favorite, their Buffalo Chicken Dip. Our in-house beverage provider, Liquid Catering, served a few different options of beers and wines, and a champagne option too! For a little something sweet, Couture Cakes and Holly’s Cakes served up some delectable mini cupcakes. Truth be told, we each had more than a few of both vendors’ delicious cupcakes and they did not disappoint! Couture Cakes’ salted caramel cupcakes were absolutely delectable and Holly’s Cakes’ white raspberry had our mouths watering.

As for entertainment, we offered two great options for couples to choose from. In The Cellar we had Erica Berg with The Erica Berg Collective, a talented group as an option for a live band. Erica’s beautiful voice backed up by her talented band never disappoints, and you certainly will want to befriend her even after just a few minutes! In The Main Hall we had Justin with Uptown Entertainment showcasing his topnotch DJ skills and killer set up. Justin quickly became a crowd favorite as he gave away twelve awesome door prizes to guests!

Shutterbooth joined us to help capture some fun photo booth moments! We love seeing a great photo booth complete with fun props at a wedding so we were happy to have the Shutterbooth team provide the same for our Bridal Open House guests! Christine with Christine Faust Events brought her keen eye for details and her passion for making every party a dream.

Our venue looked great thanks to our featured vendors who made The Old Cigar Warehouse “wedding ready.” ABC Party Rentals provided us with three unique looks for linens while Twigs provided gorgeous floral arrangements that complimented not only our space but the linens showcased for the evening.

Gregory’s Formal Wear On The Go joining us to showcase what the groom and groomsmen could be wearing on the big day. David Gregory and his models were a huge hit as they helped our couples imagine what they could look like on their big day.

p1314533237-3Finally, Cureton Photography captured all of the beauty and fun from the day! As with all of their work, we were so happy with the way that the photos turned out. John with Cureton Photography had a beautiful set up to show off his other work to anyone still looking for a photographer.

p1314561341-3The consignment sale provided an opportunity for past brides to get in on the action too. Wedding décor was available for sale at discount prices ranging from candles and votives to linens to beer and wine. Shoppers were given quite the selection to choose from before purchasing their bargain items.     p1314526698-3It was a wonderful day thanks to our talented vendors, hard working team and enthusiastic couples and their guests. We can’t wait for the next Bridal Open House!

Sláinte to Laurie & Paul!

When Laurie and Paul first fell in love, we have a feeling that they felt the luck of the Irish. Lucky to have met someone so special, but blessed to have their soul mate for life. This St. Patrick’s Day weekend was one for the Old Cigar Warehouse record books: a holiday wedding full of happiness and fun! It was a destination wedding for nearly everyone. While the majority of guests hailed from snowy Chicago, plenty of others staked claim to Indiana, Michigan, Florida, and more. Let’s just say that all were delighted to bask in the spring weather of South Carolina. You might be asking how Laurie and Paul ended up getting married in Greenville. Simple really; some family friends have a lake house nearby and they instantly liked the area and wanted their wedding guests to enjoy it too!

Once set up began, we were seeing green…in a good way! The couple’s Irish roots were showing and we couldn’t help but just love it, from the table linens to the bridesmaid dresses. Josh Jones Photography grabbed some amazing shots of the scene. Mary Jackson with Turn Key Special Events helped plan the big day and was busy with prep work as well. With an on-site ceremony, cocktail hour on the Deck, and reception inside the Main Hall and Cellar, we had a full night ahead of us. The wedding party was small and intimate, but perfect for a gathering in the Bridal Suite. A touching ceremony was performed by Officiant Danielle Baker who led Laurie and Paul to their new life together. It was beautiful!

This bunch wasted no time in getting in the spirit of celebration. Immediately following the ceremony, guests took to our Deck to enjoy some beverages outdoors while we worked our magic inside flipping the space, making it “reception-ready”. Liquid Catering provided their Top Shelf package for libations while Reeves Catering was in attendance to tray pass hors d’oeuvres and set up a full spread buffet in the Cellar. After a wonderful first dance, three gentleman really got the party started grooving to some classic numbers and showing off their skills. It was a surprise for Laurie and Paul! Get the party started they did indeed; dancing ensued, cheering abound, and plenty of good times were had by all.

While the rest of Greenville clinked glasses of green beer and wore shamrock shirts, Laurie and Paul’s St. Patrick’s Day reception was still going strong (and probably having more of a blast). Dessert cake pops weren’t even the last stop for a late night snack. Waffle House showed up in our Cellar with biscuit sandwiches! Can you say ‘yum’? This gave guests plenty of food options throughout the evening, making the occasion even more enjoyable for all of those out-of-town-ers. We cannot say enough good things about this couple. They were spectacular to work with and so much fun. A unique wedding that will be hard to beat. Sláinte to Laurie and Paul!!

Here’s to one of our first: Linsey & Brian!

When we think back to when our gorgeously historic building was first conceptualized to become an event venue, we remember the raw space without all the renovations. No grand staircase, no fully functional restrooms, no prep kitchen, no bridal suite, and so many other details that we have incorporated within the last several months. It’s also easy to recall some of our first brides that walked through our doors without any real notion of what these future additions would look like. Just ask Linsey and her now husband, Brian.

Linsey and Brian were indeed one of the very first couples to book a wedding with us here at the Old Cigar Warehouse. In the earlier days, we were nervous that some folks might not be able to envision their big day in a place that still needed so much work done, but with a couple so easy-going and fun-loving as these two, they pictured it perfectly and fell in love with the venue right away.

Not to say that they were totally surprised on the day of; Linsey made sure to come to our bridal open houses that we hosted leading up to the wedding so she could see the progress. And at last, during her final meeting with us, she saw everything completely finished. What a treat to see brand new restrooms with antique touches, a bridal suite with all the fixings, and of course, the beautiful grand staircase that she would be making her entrance down.

The day after the wedding was unfortunately one of the rainiest of the season, but Linsey and Brian’s special fall day was pristine and clear. Their wedding was also one of the first where we had to “flip” the space; meaning that the ceremony was held in the Main Hall, guests then moved to the Deck for cocktail hour while we rearranged chairs, tables, and decor, and then everyone moved back inside once we were finished. A great learning experience on our end!

Linsey and Brian’s ceremony was quite special. First, it was officiated by the great Lisa Baker with Weddings by Lisa. Second, they strayed from the typical alter and instead designed their own! With the wood handcrafted by Brian himself and adorned with ribbons galore, this was something that the pair worked on together. Not only that, but they wanted to create a fun backdrop for their guests to take photos with later on in the night. A cool idea from an even cooler couple.

As you can tell, we love weddings where there are personal touches. Aside from the alter, there were several aspects of the decor that were a part of the family and meant a great deal to the couple. For example, take Linsey’s lovely bouquet. Made from over 200 individual pieces including brooches and flowers, they were all carefully taped and not glued for preservation. All thanks to the amazing Renee Burroughs Design! Renee also graced the space that evening with her unique centerpieces that mirrored the couple’s style wonderfully.

As guests cheers’ed to the new couple, the reception was underway. A spread of barbeque was provided by Mutt’s BBQ and a full bar compliments of Liquid Catering. Linsey and Brian hosted a smaller wedding with fewer guests than average, but it made for a great laid back, intimate celebration.

Lest we forget yet another unique moment of the duo’s evening! They opted for one of the hottest wedding trends of 2013: a naked cake. Sounds dirty, tastes delicious. What looks to be an unfinished cake with very minimal icing only to line the layers, this style matched our venue to a T–pretty, rustic, and organic. Naked cakes bring out the simple, natural beauty of the dessert rather than being covered with layers of butter cream or fondant. Big thanks to Sweetie’s Cakes for making this one possible.

The night was coming to a close and it’s hard not to wish it could’ve lasted just a bit longer. This delightful couple that we had grown to know and love so well had to finally leave us and our venue for the last time. We helped round up the guests and prepared to treat the bride and groom to a sparkler send-off on the Deck. Before we knew it they were off in their getaway car and already starting their new life together fresh off the high of their wedding day. We are so happy to know that the whole affair was a success and that they were pleased. They were one of our first, and one that we’ll never forget.
